The Bengali film Sadharan Meye was released in the year 1991 starring Kali Banerjee, Tapas Pal, Somashree Chaki, Rupa Ganguly, Madhabi Mukherjee, Debasree Roy & others. The Bengali film is directed by Samit Bhanja, Kanu Bhattacharya scored the music in the film. The story is as Ranjit is an efficient policeman however a gang of criminals led by a lady named Ranita keeps him on his toes. He is sure of their crime however is unable to arrest them due to lack of evidence. Ranita is accompanied by Antony, an otherwise sensitive man who helps the poor and unfortunate. A marriage negotiation brings Ranjan in light to Ranita's realself. Her name is Sarbani and she was Ranjan's childhood sweetheart. After they were separated, she had seen numerous hardships in her life which had led her to choose such a profession. Ranjan meets Sarbani where she tells him the truth. Ranjan advises her to reveal the names of all the members of her gang to the police. In the meantime Sarbani's young brother becomes seriously ill and gets admitted to the hospital. She decides to commit one last crime and robs a bank with Antony. The police chase her however by the time she comes with the money, her brother is already dead. Sarbani is arrested and sentenced to prison for 3 years. Ranjan promises to wait for her and tells her that he will take care of her father and sister during her absence.
