Esha Guptas item song in Rangoon edited out Or is it an attempt to defame Kangna

There is a rumour doing the rounds in Bollywood that Esha Gupta has performed an item song in Vishal Bhardwaj's Rangoon and that the number has been snipped out because the film's leading lady Kangna Ranaut wanted it out.

The rumour has been gaining credence, as none of the principal players involved in the project has bothered to clarify. However Esha Gupta finally came forward to rubbish the rumour. Says Esha, "I was never offered the song. I don't even know if there is an item song in Rangoon or not. I think it's just some fake news doing the rounds maybe, even the makers will agree. I have no idea about anything related to Rangoon."

A source close to Rangoon reveals Ranaut brought this false rumour on herself, "She has been quite a handful on the sets. But then, so has Shahid Kapoor. They've both been throwing their weight around the sets of Rangoon. The rumour about the item song is false. We wonder how Esha Gupta came into the picture."

Varun Dhawans girlfriend attends Dishoom success party with the Dhawans

Varun Dhawan has been playing a weird game of cat and mouse with the media regarding his girlfriend Natasha Dalal. At one press meet, he even suggested that the guy seen with Ms. Dalal is Varun's twin.

A real-life Judwaa before he plays the reel one, eh Varun?

But now it seems Varun is ready to come out in the open with his relationship. Last week, the Dhawans threw a celebration party for the success of Dishoom which for those who came in late, is directed by David Dhawan's elder son Rohit and stars the younger Varun. The party was attended by Varun's girlfriend. Friends say she was very much at home with the Dhawan parivar. Apparently, the family is very keen to see Varun tie the knot with his steady.

Says a family friend, "Natasha is not a part of the entertainment industry. Her parents are conservative Sindhis and worried that Varun might "slip up" (read: become more than professionally interested in his female co-stars). Before 'ooonch-neech' (untoward) happens the Dalals are keen to see the couple make it official."

The marriage may happen much sooner than we think.

Delhi court sentences Mahmood Farooqui to seven years of imprisonment

The hearing on the rape case of an American scholar concluded a day ago with the Delhi court sentencing the accused, filmmaker Mahmood Farooqui to a rigorous seven year imprisonment. Prior to this, the court had already passed a judgement proving that Mahmood is guilty of the crime.

An American scholar who was in the country for research accused Mahmood Farooqui of rape after he invited her for dinner at his residence in South Delhi. It is being said that a drunk Mahmood forced himself upon her, after which charges under Section 376 (rape) were pressed against the filmmaker. Mahmood Farooqui was the co-director of the film Peepli Live.

On the other hand, a statement released by Farooqui's wife and a filmmaker, Anusha Rizvi claims that they will continue to fight for justice. "Independent record makes the charge of 'forced oral sex' against Mahmood Farooqui simply impossible. The conviction is unjust for it ignores irrefutable evidence on the most flimsy grounds. Indeed, it appears that the Judge has given more than the benefit of the doubt to the prosecution but has expected the defence to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt. We shall appeal judgment. The complainant is consummately discredited by independent call and cab company records which were presented in Court. The defence team has adhered to all feminist principles during the trial and no aspersions on the complainant's character were ever cast by the defence. The complainant and the prosecution argued that retribution is a public cry and that the nation would fall into disrepute if enhanced penalty was not awarded in a case where the complainant is a foreigner. Fortunately, the court has ignored this outrageous argument. Lives and reputations are irretrievably lost when there is denial of justice, but our fight for rightful exoneration continues. I firmly believe that we will secure justice in the High Court," read her statement.

Hrithik Roshan was petrified about singing the National Anthem

Though Hrithik Roshan sang the National Anthem like a breeze at the Pro Kabbaddi League finale, he admits he was very nervous that he might get the pronunciation wrong.

Before Hrithik, Amitabh Bachchan and more recently, Sunny Leone has been pulled up by citizen groups for displeasing them with their rendition of the National Anthem. While Leone was wrapped on the knuckles for wrong pronunciation, Mr. Bachchan was publicly reprimanded for-believe it or not-rendering the Nation Anthem at a slower pace than permissible.

Understandably, Hrithik Roshan approached our National Anthem with utmost caution and a handle-with-care attitude.

Says Hrithik, "I was singing it for days in my head before the event. Just to get used to the pronunciation."

With more and more Bollywood celebrities getting into trouble regarding political/national issues, there is a growing reluctance among high-profile entertainers to participate in national events.

A socially active actor with a track record of philanthropy has decided to stay away from all national events. "Why should we lend our names and presence to the government-sponsored events or even sing the National Anthem when we are repeatedly humiliated and legally chastened for lending our presence to national events? Aamir Khan's statement on the growing intolerance in India has returned haunt to him with Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar raking up the issue again. Irrfan Khan has been receiving threats when he spoke against certain aspects of organized religion. If we can't speak on political and national issues without fear of a backlash, why should we participate in national events?"
